Wildfire Home Insurance for Alamo Homeowners
Alamo sits in the Mount Diablo foothills of the San Ramon Valley, exactly the kind of wildland-urban interface where the major carriers have pulled back hardest. If State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, or a private-client insurer just non-renewed your home, you probably still have options. I am Tyler Chalk, an independent producer and an appointed broker with the Stand program, and I work for you, not a single carrier.
The insurance picture in Alamo
- • Alamo is an unincorporated San Ramon Valley community whose foothill neighborhoods back up to open space near Mount Diablo, the wildland-urban interface exposure admitted carriers have grown wary of.
- • Fire protection for Alamo is provided by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, which also covers Danville, Diablo, Blackhawk, and San Ramon.
- • The Diablo winds, the dry offshore fall winds that drive the region’s most dangerous fires, are named for Mount Diablo, which anchors the hills just east of Alamo.
- • Contra Costa County FAIR Plan enrollment has climbed sharply in recent years as private carriers non-renewed wildfire-exposed homes, pushing more local homeowners to the state’s market of last resort.
None of that means your home is uninsurable. It means the admitted market has thinned out, and placing coverage now takes a broker with the right specialty markets. I am based in Danville myself, right in the middle of these communities, and this is the gap I fill for Contra Costa County homeowners.
Coverage I place
Full homeowners coverage
Standard homeowners coverage on wildfire-exposed homes, placed through the Stand program and other specialty markets when admitted carriers decline.
Wildfire coverage others won’t write
Placed through the Stand Insurance program and surplus-lines markets built for high fire-hazard zones.
Other structures, pools, and landscaping
Outbuildings, pools, hardscape, and mature trees scheduled accurately, not lumped into a flat percentage of the dwelling.
Personal liability and umbrella
Umbrella coverage layered correctly above your home and auto, sized to what you actually need to protect.
I am a broker, not a carrier, so your home gets shopped across the specialty and surplus-lines markets that still write fire-exposed California homes. See the full wildfire program and the markets I access →
Frequently asked
My Alamo home was just non-renewed. What are my options? +
You generally have more than the FAIR Plan. As an independent producer and appointed Stand broker, I can shop your home across multiple markets, including the Stand program, a specialty carrier built for wildfire-exposed California homes. The best first step is to reach out before your current policy lapses so we have time to compare coverage.
Do I have to use the California FAIR Plan if I live near Mount Diablo? +
Not necessarily. The FAIR Plan is a real backstop, but it is limited coverage. Many foothill homeowners in the San Ramon Valley qualify for broader coverage through specialty programs like Stand, and that is what I help you check. If your current setup is genuinely the best available, I will be straight with you about it.
What is the Stand Insurance program? +
Stand is a specialty carrier built for homes in wildfire-exposed areas of California. They write coverage that admitted markets have largely exited. I am an appointed broker with the Stand program, which is why I can quote risks many brokers cannot, and I shop other specialty markets like Markel, Vault, and Kinsale alongside it.
How fast can you place coverage after a non-renewal? +
For clean risks I can usually turn around a quote within about a week, once I have your current dec page, any recent inspection, and your wildfire mitigation details. Starting before your current policy lapses gives us the most room to work.
Got a non-renewal letter?
Send me a few details about your Alamo home and I will respond within one business day with a path forward.
